Kim on the Issues
We the People
I believe power rests with "We the People." Thomas Jefferson said,
"The issue today is the same as it has been throughout all history,
whether man shall be allowed to govern himself or be ruled by a
small elite." Iowa Constitution, Article I, Section 2 states
"All political power is inherent in the people. Government is
instituted for the protection, security, and benefit of the people,
and they have the right, at all times, to alter or reform the same,
whenever the public good may require it."
I will strive to restore the Constitutional parameters of our
government by substantially reducing the power and size of
government. We need citizen legislators again at the state and
federal levels with courage to restore the power to the people.
State's Rights
"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution,
nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States
respectively, or to the people." United States Constitution, 10th
Amendment We need courageous leadership who will lead the resistance
against all unauthorized and therefore, unconstitutional federal
legislation.
In particular, we must resist "universal health care." Rob Natelson,
Professor of Constitutional Law at University of Montana said,
"[U]nless it is overturned, national health care will complete the
process of changing the Founders' system of a government dependent
on the people to one where the people are dependent on the
government."

Elimination of Debt
I believe we are not free when we are burdened with the national
and state debt.
It is immoral to pass on our debt to our children and grandchildren.
According
to truth in accounting, our national debt is $12 trillion with an
actual debt
obligation of 74 trillion. A child born today owes over $242,000.
That is not
freedom!
We must make the commitment to lift burdens! We must stop the
irresponsible spending and each department must be reviewed.

Tax Reform
I believe economic prosperity results from freeing the people to
utilize their
God-given talents to innovate and produce. We should not penalize
the
innovators and producers in this state and country! The government
continues to
place burdens (taxes, fees, regulations, etc.) upon "we the people."
I will fight for the elimination or drastic reduction in corporate,
personal,
property and inheritance taxes. Check out the business climate in
South Dakota

Life
I believe human life, from conception to natural death, is a sacred
gift from our Creator and is an inalienable right. I believe we are
created in the likeness and image of God and therefore life, from
conception to natural death, should be protected. Each life is
inherently valuable. Our State Constitution recognizes that there is
a God and that our
rights come from Him. The preamble begins, "We the People of the
State of Iowa,
grateful to the Supreme Being for the blessings...." Article I,
Section 1 states, "All men and women are, by nature, free and equal,
and have certain inalienable rights--among which are those of
enjoying and defending life...."
I will defend life! We need courageous principled leaders who
understand: 1. There is a God; 2. Life is an inalienable right; and
3. that government is to protect life.
Marriage
I believe God designed marriage to be the union between one man and
one woman.
I am outraged with the Iowa Supreme Court's judicial activism and
the legislature's
cowardice. The legislature makes the law and the courts express
their opinions.
While I support an Iowa Marriage Amendment, I would encourage the
next
Republican governor to not execute the so-called "Varnum gay
marriage law."
John Haskins, from Veritas Institute, was correct when he stated
that judges do
not make law. We need principled leaders who understand: 1. that
marriage was
ordained by God as one man and one woman and; 2. who will uphold the
Constitutional separation of powers.
Educational Excellence
I believe parents, not the government, are responsible for the
education of
their children. "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he
is old he
will not turn from it." Proverbs 22:6 Michael Farris, Founder of
Patrick Henry
College stated, "We embrace the view that the rights of parents to
direct the
upbringing and education of their children is a fundamental right.
We reject
the notion that the government may substitute its view of the best
interest of
the child for that of the parents', absent proper proof of harm to
the child."
I support a variety of school choices including private, public,
home and
charter schools. For more information on parental rights, see,
http://www.parentalrights.org
Second Amendment
I believe the second amendment guarantees individuals the right to
keep and
bear arms. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the
security of a free
State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be
infringed."
United States Constitution, Second Amendment. The Iowa Constitution
says,
"All men and women are, by nature, free and equal, and have certain
inalienable
rights--among which are those of enjoying and defending life and
liberty,
acquiring, possessing and protecting property, and pursuing and
obtaining safety
and happiness." Iowa Constitution, Article I, section 1.
The second amendment, the God-given right to keep and bear arms,
helps to
protect ALL of our God-given rights. I will work to pass the real,
Kent
Sorenson, Vermont-type law.
Right to Work
I believe free enterprise is the foundation for economic opportunity
and
excellence. I oppose non-union workers being forced to pay union
fees. Thomas
Jefferson said, "A wise and frugal government shall restrain men
from injuring
one another, shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own
pursuits of
industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor
the bread
it has earned. This is the sum of good government..."
I will fight to protect Iowa's Right to Work laws!
Enforcement of Immigration Laws
I believe illegal immigrants should be deported.
